The Extreme Ultraviolet Explorer (EUVE) launched on
June 7, 1992 on a Delta II rocket from Cape Canaveral, created the
field of EUV Astronomy (covering the wavelength region 70-760 Å).
The mission opened up this last unexplored spectral window in astrophysics.
The first six months of the mission were dedicated to mapping the
EUV sky with the scanning telescopes. A Guest Observer phase followed
until January 31 2001 and subsequently EUVE re-entered the Earths
atmosphere.
STScI provides the archive for EUVE. This U.C. Berkeley initiated
mission also collaborated with STScI on the development of SPIKE,
by providing the software port to the Unix operating system.
