The Independent Detector Testing Lab (IDTL) was established to provide independent characterization of infrared detectors. The lab had been operated by STScI under a Memorandum of Understanding with the Johns Hopkins University and contributed to characterization of primarily IR detectors.

The lab has been named the Operations Detector Lab and serves to support the JWST mission.
